Like most other college students, I like to think of myself as an adult – EXCEPT when it’s Christmas time. As soon as the Thanksgiving leftovers are gone, I remind my parents every chance I get that I am a broke college student with a million things on my wishlist that I would love “someone” (a.k.a. them) to buy for me for Christmas. Here are a couple of things I included on my wishlist:
1.Air Fryer ($30)
Whenever I go home, I am always tempted to “borrow” my mom’s air fryer and take it back to college with me because they are really the bomb. You can throw almost anything in there – chicken, salmon, vegetables, etc – and it’ll be ready before a 20-minute episode of The Parker’s is over. Everything you see on Twitter or Tik Tok about air fryers was right and they definitely live up to the hype. Plus the $30 ones at Best Buy are available for same-day pickup!
Polaroids are definitely making a comeback but sometimes the quality just doesn’t hit. So if you like the polaroid aesthetic but want to keep your crisp iPhone quality, ask your mama to get you this portable, travel-sized photo printer.
If you’re trying to start the new year off right with a fresh perspective on life, this is the book for you. I literally recommend it to everyone I know because it has honestly helped me view my experiences through a lens of happiness. “Angry Black Woman” who? Not me!
Look here, if you were looking for a time to cop that $100 speaker, Christmas is it. When Corona season wraps up and the functions start again, you can be the friend that brings the speaker. We LOVE those friends! Nothing kills the vibe more than a janky speaker with low-quality sound, so go ahead and get your parents to buy that JBL speaker you’ve always wanted to get but never wanted to buy yourself.
It seems like everybody and their mama has Netflix and Hulu by now. For some reason, people sleep on HBO Max, but let me be the first to tell you that it’s lit! Euphoria… Lovecraft Country… Insecure – all cinematic masterpieces. So go ahead and cop that subscription before everyone hops on the bandwagon!
6.Natural Skincare
I know I’m not the only one that’s noticed all of the natural skincare brands that have blossomed during quarantine – especially BLACK-OWNED skincare brands. Here are a few that you should definitely check out. A few of them even have expedited shipping options!

If your parents aren’t going for any of these gifts, that ain’t no problem. Just make them New Years gifts for yourself!
Happy Holidays, Cocoa Queens!
